The Gunmakers Trust is dedicated to nurturing the future of British gun-making and is focused on opening its doors to both newcomers and seasoned craftsmen.
In 2007, the Trust formalised this commitment by launching a Bursary Scheme to subsidise apprenticeships across the trade. Each bursary recipient is paired with a Trustee mentor who provides one-to-one guidance, monitors progress, and ensures that every apprentice gains the depth of knowledge and practical experience they need to flourish.
Originally hosted as a single page on the main gunmakers.org.uk website, the Trust’s bursary program has grown so substantially that it now warrants its own dedicated online presence. A standalone site that allows the trust to:
-
Showcase Apprenticeship Success Stories: Highlight the journeys of past and current apprentices, complete with photo galleries and testimonials.
-
Streamline Donations: Integrate secure, user-friendly donation forms—so supporters can contribute to bursaries with just a few clicks and track how their gifts make a real impact.
-
Promote Fundraising Events: Maintain an up-to-date calendar of workshops, demonstrations, and charity shoots, with easy online registration and social-share capabilities.
-
Provide Trustee & Industry Insights: Feature profiles of our mentors and thought-leadership articles on the evolving skills landscape in British gun-making.
The Trust engaged Swarm to design and build this new website from the ground up. Our goals were to create a clean, classic design that reflects the heritage of the craft, a flexible content management system so the team can add events and news posts without developer intervention, and a clear, compelling user journey that drives both awareness and donations. With this new platform, the Trust has the potential to expand its bursaries, empower the next generation of master gunsmiths, and secure the future of British craftsmanship for decades to come.
